Author's Description:

The production version of the last revolution of the Toyota iQ is done at 2008 Paris Motorcycle show. Finally near the end of the design at the Geneva show earlier this year, iQ is a city car that is so innovative that – like Toyota Prius – stands as a landmark for the development of interactive drive.

The radical thinking behind the Toyota iQ turns conventional car design on the top. Toyota engineers have been long for unusual redesigned, re-engineer components or in their seats to achieve the goals of a car that is less than three meters long, yet has four seats in the have for the space, or driving fun comfortable.

Toyota iQ redefines what a car should be in today’s era of congested cities and enhance environmental awareness, not at least by achieving carbon dioxide emissions levels that start at 99g / km. Also it is fun to drive with outstanding dynamics and advanced powertrain technology.

Hiroki Nakajima, Toyota iQ Engineering Director, explained: “For the development of iQ my research design for a concept befitting a stylish and small, the car began by envisioning sophisticated customers. Theory My group is in accordance with this style car, small size and premium competition would be described as’ post-modern ‘- people who demonstrate the independence of their choice lifestyle and value. ”

Toyota iQ can be ordered now, with delivery taking place in January 2009. Full volume of sales in Europe for around 80,000 units.

DESIGN

Five years ago, Toyota launched a program to radically improve vehicle packaging, focusing on innovative solutions for miniaturising key vehicle features. The results of this project formed the basis for the development of the Toyota iQ.

The aim is a new city of the car, may be in one of four people in a total length of less than three meters. The result is a landmark solution that will have a lasting impact on the vehicle and Toyota’s future development. Toyota iQ is the final refined, but still effective urban environment mobile.

The unusual space in a car interior that simply measures 2985mm long, 1500mm high and 1680mm wide is a tribute to the determination and ingenuity of Toyota’s team of design and technology.

Fact it can carry four people (three adults plus a child) in comfort and safety at motorway speeds, is just the beginning of the story. Start with a paper, Toyota has created an ingenious and new city and a car. And the proportionally large, 2000mm wheelbase, Toyota iQ has a compact yet that stance muscles like no other car.

Toyota iQ’s avatar design essence of Toyota’s J-factor inheritance, which embraces elements of the aesthetic of Japan, such as miniaturisation and modernism. Most important is that it gives form to the harmonious elements, such as “small yet spacious” or “high-tech yet human.”

J-factor is the foundation of Toyota vibrant philosophy of design definition, the long-term paradoxes are resolved, such as how to create a vehicle is energised and dynamic, but at the same time and rational ingenious.

One of three major factors vibrant clarity is Freeform Geometrics, and you can see in the Toyota iQ’s techno-organic design, for example, the “manta ray” Styling of the center console.

On a factor external to the game – “Perfect Imbalance of Proportions”. Big wheel is set at the corner of a very powerful vehicle for the stance that belies the car’s compact size.

True to J-factor aesthetic minimalism, Toyota iQ will be available to boot from the outside in three colors: White Pearl Metallic, Black Metallic and Amethyst Metallic (more colors will be later).

Six Innovations breakthrough IN A VEHICLE PRODUCTION PACKAGING

Toyota iQ’s remarkable interior decoration is the volume down to its comparatively long 2000mm wheelbase and short overhangs – 530mm front and 455mm rear. Interior length from the back end of the control panel tool for hip points behind the seats is an impressive 1238mm. To achieve this breakthrough, saving space six technical innovation was developed.

Integrated front mounted part of a conventional transmission layout allows Toyota iQ to be built with an extremely short front overhang. This reduces the total length, while simultaneously increasing the length of the passenger. Ingeniously this not only reduces the amount of space needed for engine machine, it also allows the large diameter front wheel position to be in remote corners of the vehicle. This shortens the overhangs, which in turn improved the stability and manoeuvrability.

Center using off-the steering gear and set it higher in the engine bay means the transmission, engine and can be repositioned distribution. Engine computer can then be made for smaller, further reducing front overhang.

Fuel tanks tradition is set under a seat after the car. By cracking the apartment, reducing it to just 120mm in height and resolve problems quickly change stolen fuel for a design like this will create a standard, the tank can be relocated under the floor. Toyota iQ’s fuel tank with the capacity 32-liter, giving an ample range drive. Angling the rear shock absorbers allow backwards interior space will be increased.

The slimness of the seatbacks frees up more of the following 40mm of knee room at the high. The shallow to 30 percent less than conventional, contributes to overall fuel efficiency and low emissions. Extruded tubes using materials rather than high tensile steel plate, ensuring that the structure is rigid. The slimmer design, with integrated headrests, save space comfortable without sacrificing or safety.

Reducing the size of the heat and air conditioning units by 20 percent compared to the Toyota Yaris allowed engineers to make saves space without compromising performance. This means that the blower unit, usually found in front of the front, can be integrated with the ventilation unit in a central location. This innovation allows the front passenger area will be forwarded, freeing up cabin space and increased leg room.

The improved asymmetric dashboard is designed to expand the entire cabin area. It ensures ample leg room for the passengers in front, even if it’s in place is the position further. The sliding seat configuration allows an adult 190cm tall to sit comfortably in the back seat behind a front of the same height. Shoulder-to-shoulder between the remote control and front passenger is 50mm wider than the Yaris and bears comparison with a C-section. The all-round the space layout and ample seating means there is no room for three adults plus a child, or passenger or luggage behind the driver.

Design excellence ENVIRONMENT

Toyota iQ represents the success of Toyota’s results of the drive has been established to reduce the environmental impact of the car without performance and driving dynamics compromising. With low CO2 emissions as 99g/km (with manual transmission), it is clearly a city car that is in the right place at right time.

The innovative, aerodynamic package has been implemented through a low overall height, low risk and the center of the wheels pushed out to four corners of the vehicle. This will give low agility never speed and stability for a small car on motorways and roads around there. Minimum of labor radius 3.9 meters continue to strengthen the nimble handling, even in face of city streets.

Toyota iQ is built on a new platform with MacPherson strut front suspension was developed and a compact torsion beam later. Together provide dynamic process with high degree of ride comfort. The suspension is fine tuned to the car hug corners at speed, without sacrificing stability.

Toyota iQ engines and transmissions was developed by Toyota optimal driving philosophy of the supply of fuel consumption and low emissions without compromising on power or driving pleasure.

At launch the engine will have a-1, 0 liter VVT-i petrol units with a choice of five-speed manual or a new system Multidrive CVT.

1.0-liter VVT-i and

The 1.0-liter VVT-i petrol engine, winner of the 2008 Engine of the Year awards in the sub-1 ,0-liter class, is a lightweight, three-cylinder unit, producing 67bhp (68 Din hp) at 6000rpm and 91Nm of Torque at 4800rpm. Combined with a year of high-speed manual transmission, it returns 65.7mpg in combined cycle driving and 99g/km of carbon dioxide (provisional figures before the final homologation). This will help Toyota iQ by UK 100g/km threshold for Excise Duty, a benchmark that is used for tax purposes at the big markets of Europe, too. Specify Multidrive with transmission, the engine emits 110g/km of CO2 (provisional figure).

Multidrive transmission

Multidrive use the latest Toyota continuously variable transmission (CVT) to provide a very smooth technological change, while feeling a balance between optimizing performance and economy in fuel. It continuously monitors and select the most appropriate gear ratio and change the speed, automatically exclude “the shock”, or jump in when changing gear. It maximises Torque without engine unnecessary and smooths speed gear ratio changes, such as limited uphill changes Downhill and changes to achieve optimum engine brake force. Supply system for all city-friendly characteristics of an automatic gearbox, conventional.

Models equipped with the feature Multidrive only a light ECO driving more information on the show. This encouraged more economic driving by signalling fuel is stored and the result is reduced emissions. And current fuel consumption average is permanently on display.

Gear changes only

Models with manual transmission is equipped with a gear change that will only show when the driver can change up or down a gear to achieve the best performance possible on the environment. Drive system will take the conditions, accelerator pedal car speed and pressure in your account and can return to save fuel consumption from 0.5 and three percent compared with the normal switch gear, as on the driving habits.

Development in the future

A new 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i petrol engine with Stop & Start technology will be available in the Toyota iQ 2009. A 1.4 D-4D diesel will be offered from launch in some European markets, but is not scheduled for introduction in the UK.

Many of the new Toyota iQ will be adapted and developed in the future for Toyota models. Car industry is an important environment in Toyota’s commitment and efforts to develop technology for many low emissions. It is an important part of Toyota’s challenge to achieve the Japanese Association of Manufacturers, cars (JAMA) voluntary commitment of 140g/km fleet average emissions by 2009.

Outstanding OPERATION AND SAFETY Passive

Toyota iQ benefits from the sophisticated and secure technology to protect drivers, passengers and pedestrians, with a range of innovative features rarely found in small cars.

Integrated with the ABS Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brakeforce distribution (EBD) is standard on all models. Steering assist control cars variables (VSC +) combined with Traction Control (TRC) are also provided in the combination and control Power Steering to minimize the risk of under or oversteer.

The new braking system with 255mm front discs and 180mm drums. For safety and collision “braking feel,” a type of link-brake pedal is improperly installed.

High strength can have multiple load path structure to effectively collect and disperse the force. Designed by Toyota, it increases rent protection in a frontal collision through six strategic elements to receive and distribute the impact energy, including the suspension of train and present members of the control panel through the members, and the front tyres are far as possible transition.

The shape and height of the bonnet and a collapsible cowl construction is designed to deform in an impact to reduced pedestrian injuries.

All models are fitted with nine airbags. The passenger front airbag has a dual-chamber design with a lower pressure inflator to the space between and the control panel.

The driver has a knee airbag, which, because of short-term steering column, can be position closer to the driver’s knees, reducing deployment time and the amount of inflation should necessary. On the front of an innovative seat cushion airbag that works with the seatbelts to reduce and disperse into force, on the chest and body. Airbag This is more effective in restraining hip movement than conventional knee airbags, the Toyota iQ’s asymmetrical dashboard design.

Protection from impact response is provided by two front side airbags, designed to restrain the chest and pelvis at the same time. Two curtain shield airbags protect all four occupants from the effects on head and neck.

Emergency locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts are fitted to all seats, with force-limiters and pretensioners for driver and front passenger.

First in the world after window airbag

Toyota iQ mark a first breakthrough in the world with a window curtain shield airbag later. This developed from the roof lining behind the rear headrests to protect occupants in an-end collision.

Isofix child seat anchors are attached to the rear seats. A high tensile strength steel space frame construction with integrated headrests provide driver and passenger front collision with whiplash protection safety and effectiveness with Toyota’s latest operating system headrest.

360-With the approach the level of safety, Toyota aims to implement the Euro NCAP five-star Rating rent protection.

EQUIPMENT ASPIRATIONAL Specification

In line with the design and improvement of quality, complete, it will provide the standards as a premium feature for added style, comfort and convenience, the installation it more modestly outside the convention and define the model car in the city.

Two classes will be available – standard trim and a version upgrade insurance. Will include key features (according to grade) alloy wheels, electrically adjusted heated bathroom door with integrated turn indicators, automatic air conditioning, privacy glass, smart and start entering system-Dusk sensing headlights, rain-sensing wipers and auto dimming mirror Duong view.
